How to use it

1. Drop your CSV file onto the box, or paste rows copied from a spreadsheet and press Use pasted data.
2. Set the title, choose portrait or landscape, and tick the columns you want.
3. Check the preview. Long tables continue onto more pages with the column headings repeated.
4. Press Download PDF.

What goes in the report

A title and optional subtitle, the date you made it, the number of rows, and then your table. Columns that hold only numbers are lined up on the right so they are easy to compare. Zebra striping helps the eye follow a row across the page, and each page ends with a page number.

How totals work

Tick the totals option and every column made up entirely of numbers gets a sum at the bottom, in the same style as your data (so 10.00 and 5.50 give 15.50, and a column written with pound signs is totalled with a pound sign). The adding is done in whole pennies, so you never see answers like 0.6000000000000001. Columns of percentages are not added up, and neither are columns that mix currencies; the tool tells you when it skips one.

Getting your data in

From Excel or Google Sheets you can either save the sheet as CSV (File → Save As → CSV, or Download → CSV) or simply select the cells, copy them and paste them into the box. Pasted cells arrive tab-separated, and the tool works that out automatically. Excel workbooks (.xlsx) can't be read directly.

Limits worth knowing

This free tool builds reports of up to 5,000 rows. The PDF uses a standard font that covers English and Western European languages: accented letters, £ and € all work, but Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and emoji show as “?” (the tool warns you when this happens). Very long cells are cut after six lines with “…”. A table with too many columns for the page needs some columns unticked, or landscape.
