How to convert by hand
Every volume unit is a fixed fraction of a cubic metre. Multiply by the size of the unit you have (in cubic metres), then divide by the size of the unit you want. For example, 2 UK gallons × 0.00454609 ÷ 0.001 = 9.09218 litres.

UK and US units are different
The UK (imperial) and US systems share names but not sizes. A UK gallon is 4.54609 L and a US gallon is 3.785411784 L, about 17% smaller. A UK pint is 568.26 mL (20 UK fluid ounces); a US pint is 473.18 mL (16 US fluid ounces). Always check which is meant in a recipe or fuel figure.
